Episode 2: When Students Can’t Stabilize Vowel Sounds

A recording by Jennifer Hoffman | Inside The Reading Lesson

Show Notes

In this episode, I talk about vowel instability.

Students may know a pattern, but in reading, they still mix up sounds like short e and ee. When that happens, reading becomes inconsistent.

Key Idea

Students need to pay attention to the vowel to read accurately.

What I Do

  • Read the vowel

  • Read the word

  • Practice with similar words

  • Move into sentences and reading

Tool Mentioned

I use the Blend Reading app to give students targeted practice with specific vowel patterns.
